Mouthguards

Mouthguards are designed to reduce the risk and severity of dental injuries. Sporting activities are the most common cause of dental injuries. Dental injuries can be painful, disfiguring and expensive to treat. Dental injuries caused by not wearing a mouthguard can include; chipped, broken teeth, knocked out teeth, bitten lips, tongues, and cheeks and worse of all – a broken jaw.

A custom made mouthguard is designed with your sport in mind with various styles and thickness of material prescribed specifically to provide the best protection for your sport.

Your mouthguard should be worn any time there is a chance of sustaining a dental injury – this means for matches, as well as for training. Many injuries occur at training, and just as you wouldn’t go through a training session without warming up – so to, you should never get on a sports field without a mouthguard.

A mouthguard is just as important for children to protect their developing teeth and facial bone structure. If your child’s tooth is fractured, knocked out or they receive a jaw injury, it may result dental complications that require extensive long-term restorative treatments.

Your smile is your most important asset and should have the best protection possible. Talk to one of our team members today about making a custom made mouthguard for you.

Caring for your mouthguard:

  • Clean your mouthguard in warm soapy water (not hot) after each time you wear it to prevent the build-up of bacteria
  • Store your mouthguard in a plastic container that has several holes so it can dry completely, this will prevent the bacterial growth.
  • Do not leave you mouthguard in direct sunlight or in a car, as heat can warp it out of shape.
  • Do not chew on the edges, twist or bend your mouthguard as this can alter its shape and prevent it from fitting snugly over your teeth and reduce its effectiveness
  • Your mouthguard is custom made for you – do not share it with others.
